Water flow from each plot is continuously recorded by pressure sensors data collection system and corresponding water samples are taken automatically based on time interval or water flow intensity and volume. Water temperature, pH and turbidity can be measured continuously with sensor technique. Other parameters such as nutrient contents are measured from collective water samples sent to the laboratory for analysis. Weather parameters including frost depth are continuously monitored as well as soil moisture content from 3 depths in soil.
The field is located on the main grass and dairy production area in Finland and serves as an experimental platform for common agricultural practices related to dairying and grassland production but may also be used for alternative nondestructive experiments requiring field area. All the management procedures on the experimental plots can be applied by normal size farm machinery. Experiments last usually from one to five years.
