Boreal Forest Regeneration

The Boreal Forest Regeneration (BoFoReg) is an enclosed AnaEE facility located at the Experimental Station of the Natural Resources Institute of Finland (Luke) in Suonenjoki, Finland. BoFoReg focuses on the study of plant stress physiology, plant health and the development of plant production methods. It provides a research platform for the study of different plant species, with an emphasis on forest tree seedlings and horticultural plants.

BoFoReg comprises a forest tree nursery, a seed laboratory, various controlled growth facilities, a stress test field, and other outdoor areas. These facilities enable research and development work on plant production methods, as well as phenomenon-based research such as studying how plants respond and adapt to climate change and other stress factors. The following characteristics can be controlled: above- and below-ground temperature, soil moisture, rainfall, light intensity and spectrum, photoperiod, and fertilisation levels.
